As part of a tender, the Slovenian government was looking for a new operator for Maribor Airport. According to an official statement, only one application was received.

The identity of the bidder for the concession has not yet been disclosed. If all conditions are met, negotiations are to be started with the interested party. This is the second attempt to have the little frequented airport of the second largest city in Slovenia operated by a private company. The first attempt ended in fiasco, because the Chinese company SHS Aviation failed to make the monthly payments. Their regional airlines, which emerged from VLM and Thomas Cook Belgium, were also short-lived.
