The Czech capital’s airport in Prague was hit much harder by the corona pandemic than other capital airports. Despite the fact that six new airlines have started their services this year and some have celebrated their comeback, the offer is still far below what was available before the crisis.
In the 2022 summer timetable, up to 153 destinations will be offered from Prague. These are 128 scheduled destinations and 25 charter routes. This means that the number of destinations has shrunk significantly in direct comparison with 2019. This is also due, among other things, to the fact that CSA and its sister company Smartwings Some have significantly reduced the range. Eurowings base developing more slowly than originally planned.
Among others, Luxair, SunExpress, Delta and Azerbaijan Airlines have celebrated their comebacks in the capital of the Czech Republic. With Play, Flynas, FlyArystan, Jazeera, Flyr and Air Montenegro, some new customers have also been landed. But there were also involuntary departures: Ukrainian airlines are currently unable to fly regularly due to the war instigated by Russia. The destinations in the Russian Federation are suspended due to mutual flight bans.
In terms of prices, it is currently evident in Prague that there is fierce competition on some routes and therefore cheap ticket prices. Ryanair, Wizz Air, Smartwings and Eurowings are occasionally engaged in tough competition. On other routes, people deliberately avoid each other, so that higher average prices are charged on these. Eurowings and Smartwings also have signed a kind of non-aggression pact, because the two carriers work together in the area of sales, for example in the form of codesharing.
