The fact that Georgian Airways has been flying between Tbilisi and Moscow again for a few weeks has angered numerous EU politicians. Previously, there were no scheduled flights between Georgia and Russia, as they were banned for a long period of time by a decree by Vladimir Putin.

The responsible EU ambassador has already hand over an official protest note. For the European Union it should be quite annoying that with Tbilisi a new transfer point for the banned non-stop traffic between Europe and Russia has been created. However, Georgian Airways does not see any wrongdoing because it does not offer exclusively transit flights and passengers can continue their journey to Moscow or elsewhere or stay in Tbilisi for a few days, the company said.
