The Irish low-cost airline Ryanair received a severe defeat before the labor court in Portugal, because the mass dismissals were declared ineffective. The flight attendant union SNPVAC acted as the plaintiff.
The bases in Lisbon and Porto are affected. The court sentenced the low-cost airline to re-employ all dismissed flight attendants. However, Ryanair is still entitled to an appeal and it is likely that the lowcoster will appeal.
The trade union SNPVAC stated in a statement that the dismissals that became effective in January 2021 were found by the court to be ineffective and illegal. The company disregarded the procedures provided for in labor law. A court in Maia previously declared the dismissal of nine flight attendants ineffective and ordered their reinstatement. In this case, cabin workers in Porto were affected.
