Santa Ana: Delta-B757's engine emitted thick smoke

For reasons that are still unclear, on January 10, 2023, Delta flight DL447 developed heavy smoke during the take-off process in Santa Ana. The pilots aborted it immediately.

Video taken by a passenger shows dense smoke emanating from the right engine of the Boeing 757, registration N712TW. Before that, there should have been a loud bang and a burst of flames. The machine was then moved to a parking position.

The passengers and crew members were able to exit the Boeing 757 unharmed. The exact cause is still unclear. Delta suspects that there may have been a maintenance error.
