Slovenia launches new subsidies for airlines

The Slovenian government intends to publish a tender for subsidized routes to/from Ljubljana shortly. This will contain a concrete route list. Airlines can then apply for funding.

However, according to Transport Minister Alenka Bratušek, they are still waiting for formal approval from the EU Commission. She assumes that the time will come in the coming week and then the government can take the next steps. With the subsidies one wants to persuade carriers to take up further routes from/to Ljubljana. However, some carriers criticize the comparatively high fees that have to be paid to airport operator Fraport.
