So far, Lufthansa has been able to agree on state support for itself and its subsidiaries - only Brussels Airlines has remained outside. Until now: Like the public broadcaster VRT reported that an agreement was reached with the Belgian government.
According to this, Brussels will receive a loan of 290 million euros from the state, which will have to be repaid by 2026. The condition: The cash injection must go to the Belgian flag carrier and must not be passed on to Lufthansa or any other airline company. In addition, the government receives a lien on shares in the crane group. If the airline is no longer able to repay the loan, they will go to the Belgian state.
In addition, Lufthansa has also committed itself to taking the ailing airline under the flights. An additional 170 million euros will be pumped into the company. Of this, 70 million euros are to flow into the restructuring, the rest of the money is to be used for financial consolidation.
The agreement also stipulates the continued existence of the Brussels Airlines brand and the headquarters in Brussels and is before the Lufthansa Executive Board and the Belgian government for final approval. The European Commission could also put a stop to the project.
