A survey conducted by OnePoll on behalf of Norwegian Cruise Line has shown that around two thirds of Austrians are planning to travel alone this year. Of these, around 20 percent are said to have already booked a trip.

Not only singles (55%) decide to do this, but increasingly also people in a stable partnership. Almost three quarters (74%) of all people in a relationship and 68% of all married people are interested in a solo trip. Also this year, more men (69%) than women (56%) are planning to travel alone.

Missing fellow travelers (4%) are rarely the reason for this; rather, their own intrinsic motives play a greater role for the respondents. The majority state that freedom (35%), gaining their own experiences (35%), discovering new places (32%), trying something new (25%), strengthening their own self-confidence (23%) and self-discovery (29%) ) are decisive factors for solo vacations.
