In Turkey, the need of many people is still great almost seven weeks after the severe earthquake. According to official figures, more than a million people are currently living in tents. The tour operator Schauinsland-reisen commissioned the construction of residential containers immediately after the earthquake on February 6th. They have now been completed and are to be delivered to the affected areas as soon as possible.

The earthquake victims in Turkey are receiving further aid from Germany. The Duisburg travel agency schauinsland-reisen, together with its Turkish agency partner Summer Tour, is donating 70 residential containers for the people in the affected areas. There, heavy rains had recently flooded numerous makeshift tents. "After the severe earthquake at the beginning of February, we immediately considered how we could best help," says schauinsland-reisen Managing Director Gerald Kassner. "Together with our local agency, we then decided to have residential containers built for the earthquake region." The containers that have now been completed are fully furnished and have separate sleeping and living areas as well as a bathroom. They are expected to arrive in the Malatya region later this week. "With the containers, we want to help to alleviate at least a little the suffering that continues on site," says Kassner.
