United Airlines with new Chief Trash Officer

United Airlines has introduced a new board member with Oscar from Sesame Street. The grumpy, garbage-can-living character now serves as the US airline's chief trash officer. Of course, this is just a humorous marketing campaign.

As the main character of the current awareness campaign, waste expert Oscar informs about the expected benefits of sustainably produced aviation fuel (Sustainable Aviation Fuel, SAF). In short videos, the Chief Trash Officer can be seen at work alongside real United Airlines employees. In addition, Oscar also explains in Instagram stories, Twitter threads and outdoor advertising what an important role waste can play in the production of SAF in the future.

"United Airlines has invested more in the production of sustainable aviation fuel than any other airline in the world," said Josh Earnest, United's chief communications officer. “All airlines burn kerosene, but no airline will solve the problems of climate change alone. That's why United Airlines hired Oscar to help us educate travelers of all ages about SAF and engage in the fight against climate change. From banana peels to frying oil, Oscar is well qualified to tell us why garbage could be the treasure that powers the jets of the future.”
