In the past two weeks, according to Lufthansa, the demand for USA flights for the summer has increased significantly. Connections to New York, Miami and Los Angeles recorded a booking increase of up to 300 percent. The airlines in the Lufthansa Group are therefore increasing their offer to and from the USA from June onwards and are flying back to destinations such as Orlando and Atlanta.

At the same time, Lufthansa is calling for an open perspective for the transatlantic: “In view of the great importance of transatlantic air traffic for the global economy, we now need a perspective on how travel between the USA and Europe can be made possible again on a larger scale. If the number of infections falls and the vaccination rate increases, it can be opened carefully, ”emphasizes Lufthansa board member Harry Hohmeister.

Still no easing in sight

But these entry easements are still a long way off. For example, US citizens are allowed to vacation in Italy again - the government there relaxed its regulations. Conversely, however, there are still no uniform solutions. And that although the EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had promised to make travel easier between the European Union and the USA for vaccinated people at the end of April, like tip-online.at reported.

Demand for vacation destinations has also increased significantly

For classic European holiday destinations such as Greece, Italy, Spain or Portugal, Lufthansa and Eurowings have reported up to three times as many bookings in the past seven days as in the previous weeks. On some routes to Spain, such as Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza or Barcelona, bookings were even above the level of 2019. Flights to the Balearic Islands and the Greek islands are particularly in demand. Eurowings has therefore included more than 500 additional flights on the routes to Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza and Greece in the flight schedule.
