The onset of winter led to significant operational restrictions in Frankfurt am Main on Wednesday, January 17, 2024. Around 700 flights had to be canceled. At times the de-icing even had to be stopped.

Lufthansa had already decided in advance that numerous flights would have to be canceled due to the unfavorable weather forecast. On Wednesday around midday the de-icing of the aircraft was no longer kept up with, so that according to Fraport it had to be stopped. In the afternoon, a few flights were able to take off again. There were also weather-related operating restrictions on Thursday, January 18, 2024.
