In Ghana, GH Wings Airlines is a new provider that wants to launch. According to a statement from the company, the first meeting with the civil aviation authority that should lead to the receipt of the AOC and operating license has been held. The logo could cause trouble for the start-up, because it looks very similar to that of the Zeitfracht subsidiary German Airways.
The logo presented by GH Wings Airlines looks as if it has taken over that of the German airline and has only changed its color a little. The stylized eagle was also given eyes and the company logo is ready. There is no connection to German Airways and the Zeitfracht group.
When asked, a spokesman told Aviation Direct that it had nothing to do with the startup from Ghana and that the use of the protected logo had not been authorized. The matter is now being examined. By the way, Zeitfracht has a lot of experience in matters of logo dispute, because German Airways still flew for some time as WDL Aviation with the Zeitfracht arrow on the tail unit of BAe 146.
Comparison of the two logos:
That didn't fit Austrian Airlines at all, because there was a great risk of confusion with the company's own old logo. The one from Zeitfracht has been turned in the other direction and has been in use since the 1970s, but the AUA was the "old arrow" a thorn in the side. It was argued, among other things, that this is still in use at certain points. For example on buildings in the security area in Vienna, on containers and aprons of flight attendants.
Ultimately, there was a legal dispute that was settled amicably. Zeitfracht refrained from using the arrow on the WDL aircraft. Shortly afterwards, the German Airways brand was presented. This uses the logo that has now presumably been "copied" in Ghana.
