Discussed for a long time and now it is being implemented: The low-cost airline Transavia announces the addition of holiday destinations from Brussels Airport. However, this is not just about expansion, but also the fact that the fees at the Amsterdam-Schiphol home base are being increased.
The carrier is making the preliminary start with a connection from Brussels to Innsbruck. This should be offered seasonally. The first flight is announced for December 23, 2021. They actually wanted to fly this route last year, but the corona pandemic thwarted the bill.
"We are delighted to welcome Transavia to Brussels Airport, an airline that for many years has also enjoyed increasing popularity among Belgian travelers looking for a sunny destination," said Arnaud Feist, CEO of Brussels Airport. "In addition, the winter sports flight to Innsbruck offers our travelers a new destination in our constantly growing network of cities in Europe."
A Boeing 737 is stationed
Transavia's plans to also fly from Brussels have been dragging on for a long time. According to their own information, they have been planning to relocate part of the offer from Amsterdam-Schiphol to the capital of Belgium for around 1,5 years. One reason for this is the comparatively high airport charges in the Netherlands. However, the corona pandemic meant that Transavia was delayed in implementing the Belgium plan.
The first step is to offer the destinations Alicante, Ibiza, Heraklion and Faro from Brussels in the summer of 2022. Four circuits per week are planned to Ibiza and Faro. Alicante is said to go five to six times a week and Heraklion once a week. A Boeing 737 machine will be stationed on site.
“Our flights from Brussels Airport strengthen our position on the Dutch and Belgian markets,” says Marcel de Nooijer, General Manager of Transavia. “Many of our current customers and business partners already come from Belgium and the southern Netherlands. That is why we see the start of flying from Brussels as a big step in order to continue to meet existing customers in Belgium and the Netherlands with a number of beautiful destinations. "
