The Norwegian airline Flyr is currently making waves in Norway against the fact that, according to its own statements, it is the only local airline to be excluded from state corona aid. The carrier has so far flown a book loss of 100.000 Norwegian kroner.

Flyr started in the middle of the corona pandemic, because man only received AOC and operating license in June 2021 granted. The first flight was performed on June 30, 2021. Currently, in order to be eligible for government aid and loans, the regulations state that the company must have been active in the market before the start of the pandemic.

The young aviation company was launched in August 2020, i.e. in the middle of the crisis, and started - as mentioned - in August 2021. According to local media reports, Flyr is said to have repeatedly written and personally criticized the Norwegian Ministry of Finance. In the meantime, an official application for state aid has also been submitted.

The correspondence argues, among other things, that SAS and Norwegian, for example, have benefited from various aid programs and guarantees for loans. It is claimed that Flyr is the only Norwegian airline excluded from state funding. One does not want to let this sit on oneself and speaks of distortion of competition. You want to fight any negative decisions through the authorities.

It is also worth noting that in the letter addressed to the government, Flyr also writes that the current situation it is in is "very serious". It is also stated that demand is still subdued, not least because of the Omikron variant, and that this is having a negative impact on business.
