A new police building is being built on the Dortmund Airport site. The foundation stone was laid on Wednesday by Airport boss Ludger van Bebber, Lord Mayor Thomas Westphal and North Rhine-Westphalia Interior Minister Herbert Reul, among others.
By 2024, on behalf of the client, Flughafen Dortmund GmbH, a new office building for the Dortmund police will be built on the former P3 car park at Dortmund Airport. The Dortmund police had previously advertised a lease with a construction obligation. After an almost two-year procurement process, the airport was awarded the contract as the new landlord and builder. The new building is intended to relieve the physical situation of the Dortmund police force on Markgrafenstrasse in the city centre. A building ensemble with a gross floor area of 27.000 m² is being built on the 3 m² site, which was previously used as car park 31.000. The structures and equipment are designed to meet the requirements of police buildings.
"For me it is the least that we create the framework conditions for the police officers in North Rhine-Westphalia so that they can master their job in the best possible way. The new building at Dortmund Airport has the best possible prerequisites: thanks to the direct motorway connection, the airport police can quickly get to any location and are given a state-of-the-art infrastructure here, which also puts them well positioned in the digital world," said the Minister of the Interior , Herbert Reul, on the occasion of the laying of the foundation stone.
"It's finally starting! We are pleased that after an intensive tendering process, our location was chosen for this important police infrastructure. It is by far the airport's largest investment in more than 20 years and underscores our importance in the area of public services. My thanks go to the entire team, which accompanied the project so professionally and thus made today's laying of the foundation stone possible on schedule," says Ludger van Bebber, Managing Director of Flughafen Dortmund GmbH.
