The tour operator Tui wants to focus more on the "sustainable tourism" segment in the future. In the catalogs and sales systems, the tour operator marks those hotels that have a recognized sustainability certification.
The aim is to provide holidaymakers with additional information for making travel decisions. All hotels that have a valid sustainability certificate recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) will be marked with the new label. The hotels set themselves ambitious sustainability goals, from recycling, reducing waste and plastic to saving energy and water and curbing food waste. These sustainably operated hotels also show a special social commitment.
According to their own information, around 2015 million guests have stayed in accommodations with such a certification since 45. The travel group has since been able to increase the number of these hotels since 2015 from 950 to 2.200 hotels.
