On Thursday evening, a regular emergency exercise was carried out at the German regional airport in Weeze. Around 230 people, mostly rescue workers, were involved in this. Managing Director Sebastian Papst is satisfied with the course of events.

Due to legal regulations, airports have to train for emergencies on a regular basis. In Weeze the time had come on Thursday. According to a statement from the airport, the exercise went well and showed that the rescue units, authorities and institutions also work well together across borders.

In addition to departments and service providers at Weeze Airport, the following authorities, security units and institutions were involved in the exercise: the Düsseldorf district government as the supervisory authority, the Kleve district control center, the Kleve district police authority and the volunteer fire brigades from Weeze, Kevelaer, Uedem, Goch and the Brandweer mountains . The rescue service and the MANV units of the district of Kleve, DFS Aviation Services and THW were also involved. Members of the DLRG from the Kleve district provided extras who played injured people and relatives.

The scenario envisaged an accident involving the fictitious airline "Air Exercise" on the airport site, resulting in a fire. The main aim of the exercise was to coordinate the direct rescue at the scene of the accident with the care of the injured and firefighting. A permanently parked aircraft provided by an airline for this exercise made it possible to carry out the emergency exercise in a realistic manner.

Flight operations continued as normal during the exercise, which took place on Thursday from 18:30 p.m. to 22 p.m. Announcements in the terminal informed the travelers about the exercise scenario.
