The People's Republic of China intends to relax the quarantine regulations for people entering China with effect from January 3, 2023. So far, you have to spend five days in a special facility and then isolate yourself at home or in designated hotel rooms for three days.
In the future, the five-day quarantine should no longer be required. From January 3, 2023, you only have to isolate yourself at home or in specially approved hotel rooms for three days. This follows the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, which relaxed the entry and quarantine regulations a few weeks ago.
Irrespective of this, China continues to practice strict corona entry regulations. In direct comparison with other countries, these are much more restrictive. Only recently did the People's Republic relax the previously tough zero-Covid policy. This has led to a sharp increase in the number of infections, although there are now international doubts as to the accuracy of the reported numbers. Experts fear that these are much higher than the regime has admitted.
Minutes of meetings published by the state leadership also show that due to the easing of domestic restrictions, it is no longer considered necessary to require five-day isolation in state quarantine facilities upon entry. These were repeatedly in the crossfire of criticism, since flight crews were also affected by them. Airlines were regularly banned over a longer period of time if, for example, five passengers tested positive for Covid-19 after arrival.
