Since 2020, the low-cost airline Wizz Air has repeatedly announced its comeback at Salzburg Airport after a short stint, but then sometimes canceled it again at extremely short notice. On February 8, 2024 the time had come: Wizz Air UK landed in the city of Mozart coming from London-Luton.
Wizz Air surprisingly announced in the summer of 2020 that it would be adding Salzburg Airport to its route network. After just a few rounds one withdrew without a sound. Since then, the comeback has been repeatedly postponed. However, the previously announced destinations of St. Petersburg and Kiev-Schuljany will not be able to be served for a long time. The reasons for this are generally known and cannot be influenced by the carrier.
On February 8, 2024 the time had come: Wizz Air UK set course for Salzburg Airport from London-Luton. This route will now be served on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. In April 2024, Salzburg will also be served by jets from the Wizz Air Group from Skopje and Bucharest-Otopeni.
According to the company's own information, 115.000 seats will be offered this year from Austria's second largest airport. In 2023 there were around two million passengers from Vienna-Schwechat, where Wizz Air has a base. In total, around eight million passengers have been transported to/from Austria since 2016.
“We are very pleased to launch our first flight from Salzburg to London and give our passengers the opportunity to discover a new destination. With this new route, we want to create unforgettable experiences and enable our passengers to create lasting memories amidst London’s iconic landmarks, dynamic culture and diverse offerings,” said Valeria Bragarenco, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air.
