At the end of October, Lufthansa completed the sale of the part of LSG that it still had. The new owner is the Aurelius Group. At the beginning of April 2023, a corresponding purchase agreement was signed, which has now been completed.

Some time ago Lufthansa started selling silverware like its catering subsidiary LSG. In 2019, the subgroup's European business was sold to competitor Gategroup. Now the rest has also been sold off. The non-European activities went to Aurelius.

“On behalf of the entire Lufthansa Group, I would like to thank all employees of the LSG Group. They have been an essential part of our group’s success story over the past decades. The Lufthansa Group has become number one in Europe - also thanks to the consistently excellent work and passion of the colleagues at the LSG Group. With the Aurelius Group, a new owner has now been found who can provide new impetus and will continue to invest in the catering business area. “I am all the more pleased that the LSG Group, as a partner for on-board products and service concepts, will continue to play an important role for the guests of our group airlines in the future,” says Remco Steenbergen, CFO of Deutsche Lufthansa AG.

Officially, Lufthansa says that the sale of LSG and Airplus is intended to help it focus more on the airline business. “Following the agreement already this year to sell Airplus and the agreement to take over a share in ITA, the closing of the sale of the LSG Group is further evidence that we are consistently implementing our strategy and are thus driving forward the transformation of the group,” says Steenbergen.

The sale of the LSG Group includes all classic catering activities as well as the onboard retail and food commerce business. In addition, there are all brands of the LSG Group, including the 131 LSG Sky Chefs catering operations in the Americas (USA and Latin America), EMMA (Emerging Markets) and Asia-Pacific regions. The onboard retail specialist Retail InMotion (RiM), based in Dublin, and SCIS Air Security Services in the USA are also included. The LSG Group has around 20.000 employees and operates 36 joint ventures worldwide.
