In the 2024/25 winter flight schedule, the low-cost airline Norwegian intends to station two Boeing 737s in Las Palmas again. They already had a base in Gran Canaria in the past, but this was dissolved as a result of the insolvency proceedings that they had to enter during the pandemic.
The company announced that it will primarily serve destinations in the Scandinavian region from Las Palmas. Initially, the destinations Sandefjord, Stockholm-Arlanda, Oslo and Gothenburg were confirmed as the first destinations. More routes will be released for booking in the next few weeks.
With the Las Palmas base back into operation, Norwegian will, as things currently stand, maintain four bases in Spain in the 2024/25 winter flight schedule. While machines are only stationed in Palma de Mallorca during the warm season, the bases in Barcelona, Malaga and Alicante are operated all year round. In the past there was also a base at Tenerife South Airport, but this was closed in the wake of the corona pandemic and has not been reactivated to date.
Two Boeing 737s will initially be stationed in Las Palmas. The company expects to employ up to 120 people on site. The reopening is also likely to be a reaction to Air Baltic, as the Latvian carrier has had a seasonal base in Las Palmas since the 2023/24 winter flight schedule. In addition to destinations in the Baltics, the portfolio also has some destinations in Scandinavia.
