An electrically powered aircraft tractor is now being used on a trial basis at Vienna Airport. It is the "Bison E620" model, with which machines up to 260 tons, for example Boeing 777, 767 and 737, the Airbus models A350 and A320, as well as Embraer jets, can be towed and pushed.

According to Flughafen Wien AG, around 400 electric vehicles are already in use. These include cars, catering lift trucks and baggage vehicles. Now the airport is also testing an electrically powered aircraft tractor from Goldhofer. This should be tested for about two months. The board then wants to decide on further acquisitions.

“We use the low-traffic period caused by the crisis to develop further measures to further reduce the CO2 emissions of airport operations. We have already converted a large part of our apron vehicle fleet to electromobility, around 400 e-vehicles are already in use here. The new electric tractor is a big step forward on this path. Towing vehicles require very high performance - if the vehicle meets our requirements, we plan to use these devices more intensively, ”says Julian Jäger, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG.
