Austro-Control boss Valerie Hackl doesn't believe in terms like “flight shame” or “climate killer flies”. In “Friday in the Arena”, financed by Ökostrom AG, she countered that normal road traffic emits significantly more carbon dioxide than flying.

“Aviation only accounts for three percent of global CO2 emissions, whereas road traffic accounts for around 18 percent. If we are ashamed of flying, we must also be ashamed of driving a car - I am in favor of strict shame, ”said Hackl, who also speaks out against“ paternalism ”, because everyone has to think about what they want to do with themselves and the environment.

When asked about alternative drive options, the ACG manager replied: “A lot is happening in research. The all-purpose weapon to avoid kerosene, however, has not yet been found - batteries or hydrogen are unfortunately not yet alternatives ”.
