A new era begins for Air Greenland on December 19, 2022, as the carrier will operate its first Airbus A330-800neo commercially between Kangerlussuaq and Copenhagen. For the time being, the aging A330-200 will remain in scheduled service.
In the medium term, the older aircraft should leave the fleet. The incorporation of the A330neo is a special event for Air Greenland, as it has been a long time since a brand-new aircraft has joined the fleet. This will be used mainly between Greenland and the Danish capital Copenhagen.
In the meantime, the airline has also made the first flights visible in the reservation system. A company spokesman confirmed that the A330neo is scheduled to enter service on December 19, 2022 and will then operate regularly on the domestic route between January 1 and 14, 2023. Initially, however, individual routes will continue to be served with A330-200s.
According to the current state of affairs, the newcomer will not be used on the "race track" between January 25 and February 11, 2023. The company did not provide any further justification for this, but there are indications that further pilot training will be carried out during this period. After a transition period, which Air Greenland has not specified, the existing A330-200 will be phased out. The successor A330-800neo should bring the Greenlandic airline lower operating costs in particular.
