The aircraft manufacturer Airbus is now also producing the Airbus A321neo machine type in China. The local final assembly line has started up in Tianjin. This is intended to serve the local market in particular, but also other countries in Asia.
Airbus has had production in China since 2008. At that time it was the first final assembly plant outside of Europe. In the meantime, there is also production in the United States of America. This is where, for example, A220s destined for the American market are finally assembled.
About 14 Airbus jets were manufactured in China during the 600 years of operation. From now on, machines of the type A321neo will also be assembled. “The Airbus Tianjin team has successfully and timely completed the adaptation work in close collaboration with European experts and our suppliers to deal with the impact of COVID-19. The A321 is currently one of the most popular aircraft in the A320 Family and this is our latest move in China, showing our unwavering support for the Chinese market,” said George Xu, Airbus China Chief.
Demand for Airbus narrow-body aircraft has skyrocketed in China. With 2.097 aircraft, the European manufacturer produces just over half of all active passenger aircraft in China. By the end of October this year, Airbus had delivered more than 90 aircraft to Chinese airlines, accounting for more than 20 percent of global deliveries, and at least 60 percent of them were produced in Tianjin.
