In the United States of America, Alaska Airlines, Jetblue and American Airlines will also introduce mandatory vaccination for their employees. Previously, only United Airlines among the major providers had taken this step.
Among other things, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing internal staff letters, that these three named carriers require their workforce to be vaccinated against Covid-19. It is also argued that otherwise one could lose possible government contracts.
US President Joe Biden recently issued a decree stating that with effect from December 8, 2021, only companies whose workforce has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 may benefit from government contracts. This drastically increases the pressure on the private sector, which passes it on to employees.
Many airlines assume that if the decree is disregarded, government agencies will no longer buy tickets or they will no longer receive charter orders from them. Therefore, more and more American airlines decided to impose compulsory vaccination against Covid-19 on their employees. At the same time, you put the proverbial rod in the window and threaten refusers with being thrown out.
At United Airlines recently about 600 employees did not want to be vaccinated. After a specific date for the termination of the employment relationship was promised, the number of objectors was reduced to 320 people.
