The Japanese airline was able to benefit from the recovery of the Japanese economy in the last quarter of the current financial year and even achieved a slightly positive operating result. This was announced by the listed ANA Holdings in Tokyo.
While the airline industry continues to struggle due to the spread of the omicron variant and ongoing entry and travel restrictions in many countries, there are signs of a recovery in rising domestic flight demand in the United States and elsewhere. Under these economic conditions, the increasing demand for travel in Japan enabled sales equivalent to around EUR 5,56 billion in the three quarters of the current fiscal year. This represents a significant improvement over the same period last year. However, the continued impact of Covid-19 resulted in a cumulative operating loss equivalent to approximately €886,7 million for the nine months from April 1, 2021 to year-end 2021. Under the Dash, ANA Holdings therefore posted a net loss of the equivalent of 787,1 million euros.
However, the ray of hope is the positive operating result from the third quarter from October 1 to December 31, 2021. This means that the operating result of the ANA Group in the third quarter is back in the black for the first time in eight quarters.
"Although the entire aviation industry faces ongoing challenges, I am extremely proud of how ANA Group employees have supported the company in maintaining global connections during this important time," said Ichiro Fukuzawa, Executive Vice President and CFO of ANA HOLDINGS INC. “We have adjusted our business system. But our commitment to providing unparalleled service and comfort remains unchanged. As the recovery continues, ANA Group will continue to seek opportunities for growth and expansion.”
