The deliveries of some Boeing 737-Max will be significantly delayed because another software problem has been identified. Leeham News and Airfinance Journal have pointed out a problem with the Option Selection Software.
The software is used to reconfigure an aircraft's computer programs when it is handed over to an airline other than the one originally intended, as the cockpit displays and associated systems may need to be reconfigured. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) considers this a safety issue, the report said. However, aircraft already in service with airlines are not affected by this issue. The Boeing 787 "Dreamliner" is also said to be affected by this problem.
Some B737-Max, which are primarily intended for Chinese customers, are said to be affected. Their delivery could be significantly delayed. There is talk of a delay of up to a year. The manufacturer is still reassuring and does not want to go into detail about the situation. However, as mentioned, the FAA considers the recent software problem to be relevant to safety.
