Water damage is currently leading to the failure of numerous IT systems, the telephone system, the mail server, the reservation system and other important systems at Austrian Airlines. The IT department is currently working flat out to ensure that the back-up data center goes “online”.

Numerous IT systems are currently down due to a burst water pipe in the Austrian Airlines data center. This also applies to the homepage and the associated Internet check-in, the reservation system, the mail server and parts of the telephone system. The telephone customer service is therefore currently unavailable.

The technical problem occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the main data center of Austrian Airlines at Vienna Airport. The company confirmed the technical difficulties and system failures and apologizes to passengers for any inconvenience. The flights are currently processed using back-up systems as well as manually.

The airline stated that the IT technicians are currently working flat out to bring the back-up data center online. This is located at a different location on the grounds of Vienna Airport. At around 22:30 p.m., the company was unable to give an exact time for the restoration of the homepage and the failed systems. In any case, it is hoped that this will be the case as soon as possible.

New bookings are not possible through Austrian Airlines during the period of failure. However, AUA tickets can still be booked through Lufthansa and Swiss, among others. The airline was unable to quantify the amount of damage caused by the burst water pipe on Tuesday evening. In any case, this comes at an inopportune time, because in the last few days new bookings have picked up again across the industry. To what extent Austrian Airlines could suffer financial damage as a result is still completely open at the moment. However, it can be assumed that there is appropriate insurance for such ailments.
