For more than a year now, the Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air has announced the start of a non-stop connection from Vienna to Zaporizhia. So far this has not happened because the first flight has been postponed countless times. Austrian Airlines now wants to add the Ukrainian city to its route network.

From May 17, 2021, the Lufthansa subsidiary plans to commute three times a week between Vienna and Zaporozhye with the Embraer 195. The Vienna-Dnipro route will no longer be reactivated due to its proximity to the newly added destination. Other destinations in Ukraine offered by Austrian Airlines from the Austrian capital are Kiev (Borispil), Lemberg and Odessa.

The competitor Wizz Air actually wanted to take up Zaporizhia in spring 2020. Due to the corona pandemic, the first flight was repeatedly postponed. Most recently, the admission was canceled in July 2021 and is now aiming for September 16, 2021. The low-cost airline is planning two weekly rotations between Vienna and the Ukrainian city.

The new Austrian Airlines route at a glance:
