Anyone who flies with Swiss towards the end of the flight day and is hungry should receive a price discount in the future. The carrier wants to achieve that the food offered for sale does not have to be thrown away. Therefore you want to give a discount.
First of all, Swiss wants to test this concentration from Geneva. Basically, it is reminiscent of the procedure of supermarkets, which often grant discounts of up to 70 percent shortly before the “expiry date” is reached. The point and purpose is not only that consumers save money, but that the goods do not end up in the garbage can.
In order to prevent a surplus of goods, Swiss is already calculating the amount of fresh products that best meets demand based on the sales history of each flight. In order to further develop this approach, the carrier has decided, together with its partner ”Too Good To Go”, to offer all unsold fresh products at a reduced price. In order to determine whether this new concept is accepted by passengers, a test phase will be carried out on the last day flights from Geneva on the European route network from August to September.
Unsold fresh groceries will be offered on select flights that have ended their rotation. The passengers are informed about the availability of the offer via an announcement in the cabin. Interested customers are then offered a bag with one, two or three fresh products at a third of the regular price. The content is not communicated in advance and remains a surprise for passengers.
Tamur Goudarzi Pour, CCO of Swiss, explains: “Controlling waste on board is an important part of our commitment to greater sustainability. With the introduction of this service, we hope to significantly reduce unused food on board our aircraft. The concept of sustainability in all of our products, services and processes is part of our Swiss DNA. "
