On February 9, 2023, another plane got stuck in the mud. This time, a Boeing 767-300F cargo plane operated by UPS landed at Birmingham Airport in the United States. The N327UP slightly deviated from the taxiway while taxiing.
The consequences of this carelessness were complicated, because the cargo plane got stuck in soft ground at the airport, which is located around the US state of Alamaba. The Boeing 767-300F could no longer be freed from this unfavorable situation on its own. Heavy equipment had to be deployed in order to be able to pull the long-haul aircraft out of the mud.
Comparable mishaps have happened to a number of other commercial pilots in recent weeks. For example, an Airbus factory Beluga XL got stuck in the mud next to airport asphalt for a few days. The salvage was quite complicated due to the heavy weight of the machine. Several passenger planes also gradually made their acquaintance with the damp, unpaved ground that is found next to pretty much every taxi or runway.
