In the middle of the corona pandemic, an airport that has been “shut down” for around a year is being reactivated: Buenos Aires-Jorge Newbery Airport is scheduled to go back into operation on March 15, 2021.

The inner-city airfield is the second most important airport in Argentina. In 2019, it was used by 11,5 million travelers. The government ordered the temporary closure of this airport due to the corona pandemic. The time was used for a comprehensive renovation. The gates are to be reopened on March 15, 2021.

It is expected that there will be increased interest on the part of lowcosters, as they were forced to move from El Palomar to Ezeiza Airport in the previous year, as the airport specially reserved for low-cost airlines was also temporarily closed. Numerous airlines, including Aerolíneas Argentinas, are now applying to resume their flights from Jorge Newbery.

Buenos Aires has three airports that are relevant for passengers: Before the corona pandemic, international air traffic was mainly handled in Ezeiza. This is located southwest of the city. The vast majority of domestic flights operate from Jorge Newbery. This airport is located in the Palermo district, right on the banks of the Río de la Plata. El Palomar Airport, mainly used by Jetsmart and Flybondi, is a military airport that was only released for civil use in 2018. This is located about 18 kilometers west of Buenos Aires.
