On behalf of the Deutsche Post-DHL subsidiary European Air Transport Leipzig, Linz Airport hosted a very motley cargo plane on November 4, 2022. The Bulgarian Cargo Air headed for the Upper Austrian airport with a Boeing 737-800 type converted freighter.
This still wears the basic livery of the former Comair brand Kulula. The machine was previously used as a passenger aircraft there. Before being used by Cargo Air, the 24,4-year-old medium-haul jet was converted into a full-freighter. Savings were made on the paint, however, because both the engines and the tail unit still show the “K” of the previous operator.
Comair was a South African airline that operated under two brands. On the one hand, as a franchisee, the British Airway brand was used, and on the other hand, Kulula was also active as a low-cost airline. The company had to file for bankruptcy some time ago and is currently in In liquidation. Today's LZ-CGB joined the Cargo Air fleet last year as a full-freighter.
The machine in question has the serial number 28374 and was originally delivered to Transavia. After a change of ownership, this Boeing 737-800 is owned by Alterna Capital Partners, who leased the machine to Bulgarian Cargo Air as a freighter conversion.
Incidentally, Linz Airport writes on social media: “A colorful bird in the autumn gray! If that's not international: The Bulgarian Cargoair is currently commuting between Linz and Leipzig on behalf of DHL with a former passenger plane of the South African KULULA Airline.
