The airline Smartlynx Malta is in the middle of being converted into a freight specialist within the Smartynx group of companies. Recently the first A321F was made for DHL put in the liner service. Now the first Airbus A330-343 has also been taken over.

The 9H-SMA arrived in Luqa from Birmingham on Thursday. In the next few days the widebody will be checked by officials from the Maltese aviation authority TM-CAD and then officially registered on the AOC of Smartlynx Malta. This means that the carrier will operate long-range equipment for the first time in the company's history.

Smartlynx is bundling the freight business at the Maltese subsidiary and recently announced that in addition to the Airbus A321 that has been converted into freighters five Airbus A330 cargo planes will be floated.
