Air India celebrated its comeback in Vienna-Schwechat on Saturday. Due to the corona pandemic, the Delhi connection had been paused for a longer period of time. Now the company flies three times a week again, with Boeing 787-8s being used as a rule.

The flight connection was officially "opened" during a photo session by His Excellency Jaideep Mazumdar, Ambassador of India in Vienna, Sachin Verma, Airport Manager-FRA at Air India and Nikolaus Gretzmacher, Senior Vice President Operations at Flughafen Wien AG.

“Vienna is again directly connected to Delhi: With Air India, the restoration of a direct connection from Vienna to the capital region of India is secured and that is a gratifying success. India is one of the largest economies in the world and Delhi is the country's most important economic center. The metropolis is also an attractive destination in terms of tourism and Vienna is an important market for Indian tourism. We are pleased about the resumption of the connection and being able to build on the good cooperation with Air India," explains Julian Jäger, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG.

Air India flights from Vienna to Delhi are operated on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Connections are offered to 43 other destinations within the country, but also to destinations in Asia and Australia. It was only recently announced that the carrier, which is a subsidiary of Tata Sons, placed large orders with Airbus and Boeing.

“The resumption of our non-stop flights between Delhi and Vienna is an important step in our five-year plan Vihaan.AI, which aims, among other things, to strengthen Air India's global network. The Delhi-Vienna route will further support the growing traffic volume between India and Austria given the strong and growing trade and investment ties between the two countries. We are confident that travelers will appreciate the ability to fly non-stop from Vienna to Delhi and beyond to other destinations and we look forward to welcoming them aboard the transforming Air India,” said Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial and Transformation Officer, Air India.
