Many Burgenland airport and airline employees are customers of the Commerzialbank Mattersburg im Burgenland AG, which has been closed by the Financial Market Authority. The deposit insurance is now taking effect and funds up to 100.000 euros should be reimbursed as quickly as possible.

Commerzialbank Mattersburg im Burgenland AG was placed under administrative administration due to the suspicion of balance sheet falsification by means of a decision from the financial market supervisory authority. The management is now incumbent on a government commissioner appointed by the authority. The bank was prohibited from operating with immediate effect. According to the latest information, the regional bank is being wound up and closed.

According to customers of the Commerzialbank Mattersburg im Burgenland AG, numerous airline and airport employees in Burgenland are affected by the official measures issued by the financial market supervisory authority. Business operations are currently prohibited by decision of the FMA. This means that no banking transactions (e.g. deposits, withdrawals, transfers, direct debits, ATM withdrawals or ATM and credit card payments) are permitted. To put it simply: the affected customers cannot dispose of their money at the moment.

According to Governor Hans-Peter Doskozil, the Commerzialbank Mattersburg im Burgenland AG will not be continued. The company is now being wound up and liquidated. Customers' funds are protected by the state deposit insurance scheme of up to 100.000 euros per person (also for companies, associations, municipalities and other legal entities). The deposit insurance will now send the Commerzialbank customers a handwritten letter with all the information necessary for the payout, in particular a web login, via which a bank account must be given for the payout, as soon as possible. The law stipulates that from today onwards, customers must be compensated up to 15 euros within 100.000 days. Once the application has been submitted, the deadline is even reduced to seven days.

The ORF Burgenland reports, citing the financial market supervisory authority, that the financial situation of the Commerzialbank is said to be "dramatic". For this reason, the state deposit insurance was set in motion immediately. There are also serious criminal allegations against the board of directors of the regional bank, with reference to the presumption of innocence. The Economic and Corruption Prosecutor's Office is already investigating.
