The holiday airline Condor has its Airbus A320 machines equipped with floor newspapers. It is the Heatnow system developed by Lufthansa Technik. A corresponding contract between the two companies was signed.

It is a heating system based on a patented, conductive coating that effectively prevents the formation of cold areas in the aircraft. The heating pad consists of a heating layer between two additional protective layers. Connected to the on-board current, the electrically conductive layer acts as a resistor and heats up in a self-regulating manner. The power can be regulated in different stages if required. Heatnow is EASA certified for the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 family of aircraft.

“We chose Heatnow above all because the health of our crews is very important to us. With this new heating system, we want to offer our crews a more comfortable workplace and prevent them from having to stay in a work area that is sometimes cold,” says Christian Schmitt, Chief Operating Office and Accountable at Condor Flugdienst GmbH.

Cold areas in aircraft are a well-known problem: While the passenger cabin is zoned to a pleasant temperature when the outside temperature is -52 °C, it can get cold to -10 °C in the galleys, especially in the lower door areas, during a flight , since the differential pressure creates a sometimes very cold air flow.
