The International Airlines Group, which includes British Airways and Iberia, has acquired a 20 percent stake in Air Europa. A loan of 100 million euros was converted into shares in the Spanish airline.

In March 2022, Globalia and IAG announced that the aviation group would grant a loan of 100 million euros. This can either be repaid or converted into a participation in Air Europa. In a second attempt, IAG intends to completely take over the carrier.

A stock exchange release issued by IAG reads: “Following the announcement by International Airlines Group (IAG) on March 17, 2022 in connection with the Convertible Loan to Globalia, IAG announces that it has exercised its option to redeem the unsecured loan from the Group to Globalia in the amount of EUR 100 million with a term of seven years for a 20% stake in Air Europa".
