German Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) promised an "aviation billion" around three months ago. Shortly afterwards it was slowed down again by Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD), because he wants the federal states to contribute financially to the rescue package. An agreement has now been reached between the federal and state governments.

However, not all of the 16 German federal states were in favor of supporting the German airports. Two voted against the proposal. 500 million euros are to be raised by the federal government, the other half by the federal states, with financial aid already paid out at airports being taken into account.

The next step is the approval and approval of Finance Minister Scholz. The current budget of the federal government does not provide any financial aid for airports. Various environmental protection associations are now demanding that it stay that way. Industry representatives point to the sometimes extremely tense financial situation of the airports and, subsequently, to the jobs.
