The British regional airline Eastern Airways was awarded the contract to operate the subsidized Newquay-London route. This has been idle since March 2020. For the time being, subsidies are paid for four years.
There has been no permanent operator since the Flybe bankruptcy. British Airways flew seasonally at times, but quickly said goodbye. Eastern Airways is now receiving grants for a period of four years. The first flight is scheduled to take place in December 2021, according to the company.
It is still open which airport in the British capital will be used. This is not apparent from the public sector announcement, nor from the statements made by Eastern Airways and Nequay Airport. In the past, Heathrow was offered. Now Gatwick and London City Airport should also be in the running.
In a few days this riddle will be solved anyway, because then Eastern Airways wants to start selling tickets. The first flight is then scheduled to take place in December 2021. Turboprop aircraft are used.
