The US civil aviation authority FAA orders an inspection of all long-haul Boeing 787-8 / -9 / -10 jets. It is about a possibly restricted function of the so-called decompression panels.
So far, the FAA assumed that only a small fraction of the Dreamliners in service could be affected. Now the supervisory authority is of a different opinion and ordered the inspection of all machines of this type. For now, only those that are operated in the USA are affected. The airworthiness directive was also brought to the attention of the authorities in all other countries. It can therefore be assumed that EASA, for example, could follow suit shortly.
According to the FAA, these are the panels that separate the cabin and cargo space. If these should loosen or otherwise corrode, the proper functioning of the Halon fire extinguishers in the cargo hold is no longer guaranteed. In the event of a fire, this could have fatal consequences for the aircraft and passengers. The authority writes in its instruction that, based on current knowledge, all serial numbers could be affected by this problem.
