The summer holidays will start shortly in the German state of Hesse. Lufthansa now enables check-in at Frankfurt am Main Airport with the new digital vaccination certificate, which was launched in Germany a few days ago.
More than a quarter of the German population has now been vaccinated twice against Covid-19. For a few days now, pharmacies, doctors and vaccination centers have been issuing QR codes for vaccinated people, the so-called digital vaccination certificates.
Right on time for the start of the Hessian school holidays, passengers can check in more quickly with the digital vaccination card at Lufthansa and receive their boarding pass. And this is how it works: Travelers show the digital vaccination certificate, which proves complete vaccination protection, either via app or on a printout when checking in at the airport. There it is read off and the boarding pass is issued directly and easily. This eliminates the need to juggle with various papers and certificates. In addition, misuse through forged vaccination certificates is made much more difficult, as the system compares the data in the QR code with the booking and passenger data.
In the future, it will also be faster and easier with mobile check-in via smartphone: on selected routes, it will soon be possible to scan QR vaccination certificates with the Lufthansa app or to download them digitally into the app. The app recognizes the QR code and uses this information to create the boarding pass.
If you are worried about not having the right certificates for your trip, you can have them checked by a Lufthansa Service Center on selected flights up to 72 hours before departure. This can be evidence of tests, a survived Covid-19 disease and now also of vaccinations. The confirmations of digital entry registrations can also be checked in this way. The airline recommends that its guests continue to carry the original printed certificates with them on the trip in addition to the digital proof for the time being.
