Fraport AG has received compensation totaling around 160 million euros from the Federal Republic of Germany and the State of Hesse for uncovered maintenance costs incurred in the first lockdown of last year at Frankfurt Airport.

The amount has a fully positive effect on the consolidated operating result (EBITDA) and thus strengthens Fraport AG's equity. In February of this year, the federal government and the federal states had already agreed in principle on appropriate aid for several German airports.

“We are still in the greatest crisis in modern aviation, which is causing high losses. We kept Frankfurt Airport open for return flights and freight traffic, although from an economic point of view, it would have made more sense to temporarily stop operations. The reimbursement by the federal government and the state of Hesse is a strong signal for the maintenance of the airport infrastructure ”, says Stefan Schulte, CEO of Fraport AG.
