Leipzig / Halle Airport handled around 2021 tons of freight in the first quarter of 359.300. In direct comparison with the same period of the previous year, an increase of 20,9 percent was recorded. The year 2020 was particularly strong with 1,38 tons of air freight.

In March 2021, Leipzig / Halle increased by 25,5 percent to 135.000 tons. According to the airport, more and more machines are landing that have rapid tests and other corona protection goods on board. So-called cargo charter flights are increasingly coming to Saxony in addition to the regular regular cargo traffic. These included around 690.000 COVID19 rapid antigen tests for schools in Saxony. Almost all of these cargo flights have been carried out with passenger aircraft.

A total of around 60 freight airlines head for the airport and serve a route network that includes over 200 destinations worldwide. More than 10.800 people are currently employed at Leipzig / Halle Airport and at local companies and authorities. These include around 8.200 in the areas of cargo handling, cargo airlines, logistics and forwarding agencies.
