The airline Virgin Australia is a heavyweight in traffic within Australia and internationally in the vicinity with a fleet of 53 aircraft. The corona pandemic is now leading to an even greater focus on domestic business.
To this end, the carrier is now organizing nine Boeing 737-800s that are being procured from a leasing company. These are used aircraft that are to be handed over between October 2021 and February 2022. The medium-haul jets are mainly stationed at Brisbane Airport.
In a media statement, the company writes that the increase in the vaccination rate is expected to result in a strong increase in domestic traffic. The company wants to equip itself accordingly and explicitly emphasizes that the nine used Boeing 737-800s are to be used within Australia.
Virgin Australia's fleet currently consists of two Boeing 737-700s and 51 B737-800s. 25 Boeing 737 Max 10s are also awaiting delivery. Other machines are being operated by subcontractors on behalf of Virgin Australia.
