The Verdi trade union and representatives of Lufthansa AG (ground), Lufthansa Technik, Lufthansa Systems, Lufthansa Technik Logistik dienstleistungen (LTLS), Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa Service Gesellschaft (LSG) are starting negotiations today, Thursday. Among other things, the employee representatives are demanding 9,5 percent more wages.

At least Verdi wants to achieve a salary increase of 350 euros per month. The announced term of a possible agreement is 12 months. In addition, the hourly wage for the respective employee groups should be at least 13 euros. LTLS and Lufthansa Cargo currently have hourly wages of less than 12 euros. It is also important, even after the minimum wage has been raised to twelve euros, to agree on a collective bargaining distance from the minimum wage.

“The employees are particularly stressed by the Corona crisis, the intensification of work has increased more and more. Many of them left the job because of the uncertainties and overwork, so that the density of tasks has become even more massive than it was before the pandemic," emphasizes Christine Behle, Deputy Chairwoman of Verdi. All of this has led to the problematic situation at the airports, which is now being observed and which in turn has to be managed by the employees. "This overload, high inflation and a three-year wage cut justify significant wage increases."

The trade unionist also criticizes that Lufthansa cut many employees during the crisis. The decision at that time contributed to the fact that there is now an acute shortage of staff in many areas. Verdi always warned against it. Negotiations will begin on Thursday, June 30, 2022 from 16 p.m. at the Steigenberger Airport Hotel, Frankfurt am Main.
