Germany is in the middle of a second lockdown. Travel itself is not prohibited in principle, but in fact the number of passengers is falling significantly. Hamburg Airport is also feeling this and is closing Terminal 2 and the South Pier until further notice.
Due to the current passenger numbers, further operation is not sustainable. But that's only damage limitation, because the losses have been there for months anyway. While optimism at the beginning and forecast 17 million travelers for this year, airport boss Michael Eggenschwiler corrected this figure to a mere five million. That is why you have to use the red pencil, the airport would meanwhile reckon with a minus of around 130 million euros, like the news paper NDR reported.
