Can passengers enforce an exemption from nocturnal flight bans? Apparently in Hamburg, because on July 4, 2021, Wizz Air was around 24 hours late and the travelers put a lot of pressure on and were then able to fly to Tirana after 23 p.m.
This fact also preoccupied the Hamburg citizenship. To a request from the Left Party, the Senate replied, among other things, that the flight had been canceled the day before and that the connection would have been massively delayed again on July 4, 2021. There were around 250 travelers standing at the airport. Therefore, the special permit was granted.
After it was initially announced that there would be no start on July 5, 2021, there should have been loud protests. It also turned out to be problematic that the validity of corona tests threatened to expire. The situation turned into a powder keg, so the Federal Police asked the Hamburg police for assistance. According to the response to the inquiry, she came to the airport with 16 patrol cars.
Wizz Air is said to have applied for an exemption twice before, but the applications were rejected. Only when the situation in the terminal threatened to escalate was the go-ahead for the start, which took place on July 6, 2021 at 1:41 a.m. The Senate is now demanding that Wizz Air be asked to pay for the costs of the police due to the delays it caused itself and the failure.
